Wrap shop websites: who lets you see the colour first?
Almost nobody. We opened 1,332 wrap shop websites in the US, the UK and France: 33 let a visitor see a colour on a car, and 7 did it on the visitor's own car.

Any colour preview, and the visitor's own car.
A preview counts when a visitor picks a colour or a film and sees it on a car, on the shop's own site. It is the visitor's own car only when they upload a photo and get that car back in the new colour. A 3D model, a stock photo or a make and model picker is a stock car.
| Market | Sites | Any colour preview | Own car | Stock car |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| US | 870 | 28 | 5 | 23 |
| UK | 345 | 3 | 1 | 2 |
| France | 117 | 2 | 1 | 1 |
Where a preview exists it is mostly a stock car: 26 of 33 across the three markets.
Most sites show nothing.
The share with no preview of any kind is rounded down, never up. The counts of shops that do have a preview are minimums, because a tool can hide behind a click or a cookie banner.
| Market | No preview of any kind | Share, rounded down |
|---|---|---|
| US | 842 / 870 | 96% |
| UK | 342 / 345 | 99% |
| France | 115 / 117 | 98% |
Close to a preview, not counted
Two things sit next to a preview and are left out: a link out to a film maker's own visualiser, and a price calculator with no colour on a car.

By region.
Only regions with at least one shop are listed. A business with sites in several regions is listed in each, so the rows can add up to slightly more than the market's total.

How we did it.
The question
On a wrap shop's own website, can a visitor see a colour on a car before they call? And if they can, is it their own car?
Who we counted
Businesses that sell colour change on passenger cars: full wraps, colour-change vinyl and coloured paint protection film. Fleet lettering, signage, tint-only and clear-PPF-only businesses are out. A business with several websites, or several locations on one site, counts once.
Where the shops came from
- US: the public installer locators of Avery Dennison, Inozetek, XPEL, TeckWrap, KPMF, STEK, 3M and Orafol, plus OpenStreetMap.
- UK: the GetPPF, XPEL, STEK, GYEON and PRO PPF locators, carwraplocator.co.uk, the BSGA directory, FreeIndex, Scoot and OpenStreetMap.
- France: the 3M, Hexis, Gyeon, XPEL, Gtechniq, SunTek, Arlon, STEK, TeckWrap and Avery Dennison locators, OpenStreetMap, and 63 shops we had found through Google Maps searches in September 2026.
We did not take shops from visualiser vendors' customer lists, because that would inflate the count of shops that have one.

What we looked at
For each site, we read the homepage and up to four more pages about wraps, colour change or previews. We loaded the homepage, and any page that looked like it carried a preview, in a real browser, so a tool that arrives by script or iframe still shows up. We matched what loaded against the visualiser products we know of.
We read public pages only and respected robots.txt. We submitted no forms, uploaded nothing, never accepted a cookie banner and contacted no shop.
What counts as a preview
A visitor picks a colour or a film and sees it on a car, on the shop's own site. That includes a vendor's or a film maker's tool embedded in the shop's page.
What doesn't count
- Photo galleries and before/after shots
- Charts of film swatches with no car
- A link out to a film maker's own visualiser
- Price calculators
- One stock car shown in a handful of fixed colours (eight or fewer)
Own car means the visitor uploads a photo of their car and gets that car back in the new colour. Everything else (a 3D model, a stock photo, a make/model picker) counts as a stock car.
Checked by hand
A script flagged every site that looked like it might have a preview, about 500 in all. A person then opened each one in a browser and marked it yes or no, with a note on what they saw. Where we couldn't tell, we took the shop out of the count rather than guess: 17 in the US, 1 in France.
To check what the script cleared, we drew a random sample of 125 sites it had marked "no preview" (60 US, 40 UK, 25 France) and opened every one by hand. We found 1 missed tool, a US coloured-PPF visualiser on a subpage. We widened the pages the script reads, re-checked the affected sites and counted it.
Limits.
- The counts of shops with a preview are minimums. A tool behind a click, behind a cookie banner, or on a page the homepage doesn't link to can be missed. That is why the "no preview" share is rounded down, never up.
- The lists lean towards certified installers. In the US they are mostly film makers' installer locators. In the UK they lean towards PPF and detailing studios. Neither is a census of every shop.
- France is the smallest sample, at 117 shops. French directories block automated reading, and most film makers' locators publish no website. We found 52 of the French websites from the business name and town, and checked each against the listed town.
- 11 sites blocked automated visits (9 US, 2 UK). We couldn't tell whether they sell colour change, so they are outside every count.
- This is October 2026. Sites change; we will re-run it and replace the figures rather than edit them.
Why other surveys get different numbers.
Two other studies were published in 2026:
- WrapConfigurator's August 2026 US report counted a visualiser on 26 of 2,240 sites of shops that sell wraps (1.2%).
- WrapStudio audited 533 US shops and reported that 96% had no preview tool.
Ours finds 28 of 870 in the US. The gaps come from three choices:
- Who is in the list: film makers' certified installers here, a broad crawl of vehicle-services businesses there.
- What a "wrap shop" is: we count only businesses that sell colour change on cars.
- What counts as a preview: we include stock-car configurators and film makers' tools embedded on the shop's page.
On the main point, all three agree: a colour preview on a wrap shop's own website is rare, and one on the customer's own car is rarer still.

Who we are.
Specced makes a visualiser that wrap shops put on their own website, which is why we asked. It is also why vendors' customer lists were kept out and every preview we found was checked by hand.
Using the data.
Only totals are published: no shop is named. The per-market totals and the by-region counts can be downloaded as CSV. Quote any figure with a link to this page.
